"Two Stainless Steel Sculptures" were originally from the "Transition" series which consisted of fourteen sculptures which have now been dispersed into different collections. Although they do work as a pair the series worked as one cohesive group that was meant to be walked past. All of the pieces consisted of eight 12 triangular sections that were joined into a 'diamond' like multi-faceted shape. They work as either a symmetrical or asymmetric silhouette and one half can be either a mirror image (symmetrical) or an exact replica of it's matching half (asymmetric). There was only the smallest of changes to each facet in terms of it's placement , although the individual facets were all buffed, grinded or polished in a different way, but the changes in angles of the fourteen pieces had the first sculpture starting as quite thin and elongated to the last piece that was much thicker and shorter. It was envisaged that the viewer would first see the similarities between the pieces and upon walking past them begin to notice the subtle differences between each piece.
The pieces are also the first instance where Flugelman combined stainless steel, the medium for which he was most known and timber, usually sourced from the property surrounding his residence at Jamberoo. The use of timber, and it's relationship to Flugelman's sculptures since, mark these as key pieces in his oeuvre.
