Garth Lamb

Master of Journalism Graduate
December 2003

I have recently started working as journalist for WME, Australia's leading environment business magazine. WME is a fairly small operation - there are only two journalists working here at the moment. That means I get to do a bit of everything, so I actually use all the skills I picked up during the core of the course - writing news, features, and web based material.

I spent six long years at the University of Wollongong (UOW), and the only organisation I was even remotely involved with was the rugby team. And my own, unofficial, dedicated drinkers team. I think, without a doubt, that Wollongong has the best Uni in NSW, if not Australia.

One of my main reasons for choosing UOW for the Master of Journalism was that it's only a one year course. I quite enjoyed the course. Although I had an undergraduate science degree and knew next to nothing about journalistic writing when I arrived, I found
it pretty easy to keep up and my writing certainly improved throughout the course. I actually had no intention of becoming a journalist when I started the course - I was looking to get into media relations work, which I think the course was also suitable for.

I enjoyed the course and I throughly enjoy the job I got because of it.
