John Davis

John Davis is General Manager of the Australian Music Centre, a position he has held since July 1995, although he has worked in the organisation since 1989. He has an extensive knowledge of Australian contemporary music, and has worked as a performer (jazz and classical), composer, and administrator.

He holds a Masters Degree in Creative Arts (Music Composition) from Wollongong University, and has been active in the new music community through his work with the Australian Music Centre, having developed strong relationships with composers, performers and ensembles, and music institutions and organisations.

He has also been active in establishing strong relationships representing Australia internationally, and is currently serving terms as Vice-President of the International Association of Music Information Centres (IAMIC), and Vice-President of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM).

"My time at Wollongong University was a wonderful experience. Returning to study as a (slightly) mature age student was a challenge, and the Creative Arts degree provided a framework for my development as an artist in a very focused way.
The direction of my career has changed significantly since that time, as I have developed a broad range of organisational and management skills through my work, however my connections with creative artists are very much a part of my work. My career development is very much a direct result of my time on campus in Wollongong. The many experiences - academic, creative, social, and personal - and the fantastic physical environment of the university in the shadow of Mt Keira, have provided a great basis for me to grow from." - John Davis.
