Celebrating Student Art
22 June – 17 July 2009
Nowra and Shellharbour Anglican College Exhibition
Currently in the Long Gallery, students from Nowra and Shellharbour Anglican College have collaborated to create a diverse and stimulating exhibition that investigates a range of themes.
The exhibition, curated by Glenda Borchard (BCA graduate in Visual Arts), explores a range of concepts and materials, from individual bodies of works from the 2008 HSC that examine ideas of youth culture and personal histories.
Students in year 10 have explored ideas of the ‘body as site’ and its prominence through art history; this has lead to students developing a range of artworks that explores personal responses in a mixed media and a colourful display of wearable art pieces.
Students in year 11 have investigated and developed artworks that question personal identity. This has allowed students to reflect on ‘self’ and create artworks that respond to their immediate environment, histories and cultural through a range of contemporary and traditional mediums. Another theme undertaken by students in year 11 is that of the ‘Australia landscape’. This has lead to a number of creative artworks that explore the landscape through a contemporary perspective. The exhibition incorporates artmaking materials such as textiles, paintings, drawing, digital and photography.
The exhibition is the joint undertaking of art teachers Glenda Borchard (Nowra Anglican College) and Sue Miller (Shellharbour Anglican College) and was officially opened on Wednesday 1 July by Principal Tony Cummings (Shellharbour) and Principal Andrew Lesley (Nowra).
