Gender & Diversity

12 - 30 March 2007

The Faculty of Creative Arts proudly participated in Diversity Week (19-23 March) with the launch of two exciting new exhibitions.

The Gender Show
Our Long Gallery exhibition features more than 15 artists from the Sydney/Wollongong area and explores themes surrounding gender and identity. Curator Virginia Mawer has provided this group of artists with a forum to explore issues of gender in an effort to create space for interesting dialogue and exchanging points of view. Each artist was given license to explore issues that interested them, which has resulted in a vastly diverse range of works. This exhibition was opened by Associate Professor Rebecca Albury, History and Politics, Faculty of Arts

Participating Artists are: Didier Balez, Judy Bourke, Cease and Desist, Claire Collett, Emma-Lee Crane, Robyn Douglass, Scott East, Emily Harris, Gino Ho, Gina L'Amour, Virginia Mawer, Rachel Moore, Michelle Morcos, Gabriella Mordy, George Roukis, Kate Scardifield, Toni Southwell, Jennifer Tapia and Yes/No.

Diversity Week, is an annual event held in Week 4 and is an important part of the University’s yearly calendar.  UOW Campus life is enriched by people from different countries, backgrounds, abilities and disabilities, ethnicities, religious beliefs, ages, sexualities and gender identities, so Diversity Week is time to celebrate this.

Diversity Week will be launched by Senator Fierravanti-Wells in conjunction with exhibition openings in the Faculty of Creative Arts on Monday 19 March.  This official opening heralds the beginning of an exciting weekly program that not only includes a diverse range of exhibitions but also public lectures, film festivals, displays, band performances and even a comedy night with comedians from the Sydney Fringe and comedy circuit to be held at the UniBar.  Diversity Week is for all staff, students and outside community members to celebrate our diverse and exciting University.

Events happen from the 19th March to 23rd March.  More information can be found at http://staff.uow.edu.au/eed/diversityweek or http://webevents.uow.edu.au/
