TACTILIS MENSA
Interactive Interface to the UOW Art Collection Ecosystem
Presented by Bachelor of Creative Arts Honours Candidate Liam Fiddler
19 – 30 October 2009
Panizzi Room, UOW Library
Tactilis Mensa: Interactive Interface to the UOW Art Collection Ecosystem, is a prototype for an alternative art collection browsing system.
Utilising a touch-screen (as opposed to the more traditional mouse and keyboard) it aims to engage users both physically and mentally as they interact with the data.
The work actively visualises the relationships between tagged artworks and encourages users to further expand or narrow their search path through an alternative interface.
Freed of the limitations inherent in the real, this virtual exhibition represents a shifting of power from the curator to the audience; they browse the works in the order that they choose, not necessarily the order the works have been placed in a physical space.
Also on display is an exhibition of artwork of 10 Australian artists from the University of Wollongong Art Collection. See Digital Natives for more information.
An opening reception will be held on Tuesday 20th October at 12.30pm. The reception and exhibition are open to the public and free of charge. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome to attend.
