Boolarng Nangamai Together Dreaming

The Faculty of Creative Arts proudly participated in Diversity Week (19-23 March) with the launch of two exciting new exhibitions.

Our indigenous exhibition in the FCA Gallery is a collaboration by the FACULTY OF CREATIVE ARTS, the WOOLYUNGAH INDIGENOUS CENTRE and the BOOLARNG NANGAMAI (TOGETHER DREAMING) ABORIGINAL ART & CULTURE STUDIO.

This is a collective from 9 Artists working from the Boolarng Nangamai Studio, at Gerringong on the South Coast. Together Dreaming is an exhibition that celebrates the different cultures of 9 separate Aboriginal Nations across Australia. Through this expression, each artist tells the story of their life, their people, their nation …their land. Gain insight into the materials & process of each artist and experience the heart beat of Aboriginal Art on the South Coast.

Participating Artists are: Noel Lonesborough, Phyllis Stewart, Mabel Dungay, Debbie Callaghan, Russell Ping, Steven Russell, Lila Lawrence, Bonny Brennan Foley. This exhibition opening will include a Didjeridoo demonstration by Mark Mongta.

Curators: Garry Jones, from the Woolyungah Indigenous Centre, who also lectures with the Faculty of Creative Arts in Aboriginal Arts & Society and Kelli Ryan from the Boolarng Nangamai Aboriginal Art & Culture Studio.

This exhibition will be on display in the FCA Gallery from 19 - 30 March 2007.

Diversity Week, is an annual event held in Week 4 and is an important part of the University’s yearly calendar.  UOW Campus life is enriched by people from different countries, backgrounds, abilities and disabilities, ethnicities, religious beliefs, ages, sexualities and gender identities, so Diversity Week is time to celebrate this.

Diversity Week will be launched by Senator Fierravanti-Wells in conjunction with exhibition openings in the Faculty of Creative Arts on Monday 19 March.  This official opening heralds the beginning of an exciting weekly program that not only includes a diverse range of exhibitions but also public lectures, film festivals, displays, band performances and even a comedy night with comedians from the Sydney Fringe and comedy circuit to be held at the UniBar.  Diversity Week is for all staff, students and outside community members to celebrate our diverse and exciting University.
