Collecting the Self: Paintings
28 September to 19 October 2006
An exhibition of paintings by Master of Creative Arts - Research student Leonie Watson in the FCA Gallery, Building 25, Faculty of Creative Arts
This collection of work examines multiple representations of the self and explores the complex connections of inside and outside.
Artist Statement: My work addresses the problem of how to represent the self, which is understood to be multiple, a complex relationship between inside and outside and always in the process of becoming. The paintings in this exhibition hold figures that fold in on themselves, searching for a place of balance between inside and outside. They are always at once both revealing and concealing. They represent fleeting moments of apparent wholeness, complete only at the moment we see them in the light that glances across them. They represent an 'incomplete' wholeness.
