Defective Stories.
7 June to 16 June, 2006
Opened Thursday 8 June 12:30pm
This stimulating exhibition provides us with a unique crime scene perspective on the fairy tales from our childhood! With an interactive display, artist Maureen Clack takes us inside the homes of familiar tales for a clinical view of the scene of the crime…
“The pieces in the exhibition are hybrids that combine several, often conflicting, variations of a particular fairy tale with personal childhood memories of home, all viewed through the cynical gaze of a hardened detective and the harsh unforgiving light of a forensic probe.” says Maureen “Each piece focuses on the “home” in a specific tale and the crime that took place or was planned within its walls. …Or perhaps it recalls a childhood experience in similar circumstances or with equally dire consequences. In the same manner as a fairy tale, a crime novel, or even the true crime scenes in the daily news, they all hold a sinister appeal.”
