Visual Arts and Graphic Design
GRADUATION SHOW

A vibrant exhibition of works showcasing the Illawarra’s brightest young artists and designers is currently on display in the Faculty of Creative Arts at the University of Wollongong.

Titled Positions Vacant, this year’s Graduation Show in Visual Arts and Graphic Design will feature works from over 70 students who are ‘vacating the premises’ to enter the creative world beyond. These Faculty of Creative Arts students have been working all year towards this final exhibit of exciting new material and raised thousands of dollars to launch the exhibition with an unforgettable night on 23 November.

The complete process, from fundraising through to urating the exhibition, has been managed by the student body and the display will feature an exclusive preview of an eclectic range of artwork from the future leaders of the creative industry.

The vast collection includes a mix of painting, sculpture, textiles, printmaking, graphic design, photography, new media, motion graphics, animation, web design, dvertising, magazine publication, t-shirts, CD-cover art and installation art.

Each individual’s work represents the state of vacancy that they leave behind as they make the transition from university study to fulfil a ‘position vacant’ within the industry.

Writer, journalist and creator of The Art Life Blog, Andrew Frost opened the show with local musicians providing entertainment throughout the night. A full colour catalogue designed by the students is available for purchase during the exhibition at a cost of $5 each. The catalogue highlights the talents of each graduating student and featurs personal reflection on their work and time at UOW. The graduation show runs from 19 November to 14 December.
