UOW presents ROAD at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre

The Faculty of Creative Arts, School of Music and Drama presents ROAD, the first play in a double-bill presentation at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre. ROAD, written by Jim Cartwright and directed by Tim Maddock, has its roots in Thatcher’s Britain, when a low socio-economic slump manipulated morals and determined the destiny of the people.  Re-defined for the Australian stage, ROAD is a twisted comedy that, through its unapologetic nature, offers a strangely charismatic and delightful theatrical experience.

Initially commissioned for the Royal Court Theatre in London, Jim Cartwright has won the illustrious Samuel Beckett Award and also the George Devine Award for this unique and beautiful work.  Under the direction of Tim Maddock who has directed shows for Belvoir St Theatre, The Sydney Opera House and NIDA, the third year erformance students of the School of Music and Drama are excited to bring the wayward ROAD to the IPAC stage.

In 2006, the University presented Ibsen’s Peer Gynt and ….Metamorphosis at IPAC’s Bruce Gordon Theatre. Since then, the University has continued to maintain a firm relationship with the theatre, intending to assist the exposure of contemporary performance in the Illawarra region.
