Shakespeare in Love? Written by William Shakespeare, Edited and Directed by Linda Nicholls-Gidley
23 January 2006
Directed by Linda Nicholls-Gidley, Shakespeare in Love? will be performed by Faculty of Creative Arts Summer Session students from 2 4 February 2006 at 8.00pm in the Performance Space at the University of Wollongong.
The language of love can be powerful both in its emotion and its violence. Shakespeare in Love? explores the use of language between Shakespeare's lovers in a selection of scenes from Shakespeare's most famous plays: A Midsummer Nights Eve, The Taming of the Shrew, King Lear, Much Ado About Nothing, and A Winters Tale.
Shakespeare in Love? - A journey through the Shakespearean landscape of love - where professions of the heart are not always as they seem.
Our aim has been to explore these texts utilising the exercises of Royal Shakespeare Voice Director Cicely Berry. Berry says that through these exercises we can release energies and surprises in the language that can make the speaking more dynamic and pinpoint subtleties of meaning which can only enrich our understanding (of the text). Shakespeare in Love? is not meant to adhere to classical notions of Shakespeare, but it is meant to entertain and expose the idea of love according to the Bard.
The University of Wollongong Summer Session students are excited to be presenting this piece over three nights in February.
The public are invited to attend the Performance.
