Towards the Inaudible... Music with delicious and spicy overtones

We are pleased to invite you to attend a free concert Thursday 26 April at 7.30pm. The concert will be held in the Performance Space of the Faculty of Creative Arts, building 25, University of Wollongong.

This presentation of original music written by UOW DCA candidate, Michael H Dixon, will feature the talents of several well known Sydney and Wollongong musicians.

An experienced musician himself having held several principal positions in Queensland for over 2 decades, Michael currently freelances on horn and will feature in this concert playing the xenophone. This unique diamond-shaped xenophone was built by UOW PhD Candidate, Christian van der Vyver and is housed at UOW.

Highlights of the program include the voice of Wendy Dixon who is a well respected artist and consummate musician. She and pianist David Miller perform regularly across Sydney as the Grevillea Ensemble. She has also appeared regularly with Opera Australia and other companies.

Greg van der Struik and Lisa Wynne-Allen are permanent members of the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. Lisa is currently a guest with the Sydney Symphony and Greg is widely known as a known as a solo trombone artist specialising in contemporary Australian works.

Phillipa Cook, a wonderful pianist and Sydney Conservatorium graduate originally from Wollongong, will feature on keyboard and Terumi Narushima, PhD Candidate at UOW brings her excellent musical skills to the koto, a traditional Japanese string instrument.

The horn quartet members, Heath Parkinson, Kate Hermann, Alex Love and Francesco Lo Surdo, all freelance in Sydney and are currently completing their degrees at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
