"Terrorism"

Directed by Chris Mead

Written by the Presnyakov Brothers and translated by Sasha Dugdale.

There's a bomb scare at the airport. A man ties a woman to a bed. Another woman hangs herself at work. Children explode, old ladies plot and is there a chemical attack in the boys' locker rooms? World order is breaking down and all is not right, either out there, or in our own heads.

Written in Russia prior to 9-11 this is black comedy at its finest. Gallows humour and tight ensemble work from graduating actors will have you on the edge of your seats, and beyond.

First performed in Moscow in 2002, and then at the Royal Court in 2003, this will be an Australian premiere from Russia's hottest young writing team. From the team that brought you Bendy in 2002 comes another feast for the mind and the senses.

Dates: 14th, 16th, 20th and 22nd October.

"Song of Survival" - Directed by Linda Nicholls-Gidley

Based on an autobiographical book by Helen Colijn. The story of how women prisoners-of-war in Japanese camps used music to sustain themselves and ultimately survive.

On the 14th of August 1945 the world rejoiced as the end of hostilities was announced. Yet in a prison camp in Sumatra the internees continued their meagre existence unaware of these events. Unaware that the bombing raids that they had experienced in the days before Singapore's capitulation were mere drops in the ocean compared with the enormous weapon launched against the Japanese.

They knew not that the allies had won or that the world was once again entering peaceful times. They knew nothing of the events occuring "beyond the wire", only of their own quest for survival. Song of Survival is the story of this quest.

"After a successful tour of the Australian War Memorial recently, the cast of Song of Survival met with Dr Barbara Orchard an Australian expert on the women imprisoned in Sumatra during WW2.
Dr Orchard has met and interviewed many of these women and has a vast knowledge of the suffering they endured.
The cast now has the task of putting all that they have learned from the tour into the show...". - Linda Nicholls-Gidley.
