The Show Must Go On
|
The Show Must Go On is a devised performance, with training in circus and physical skills direction from our Artist in Residence, Alicia Battestini of Circus Monoxide. It is a story of an Australian circus set in the late 1960's against the backdrop of the Vietnam War. With several vital members of the circus at war, the remaining cast members struggle to find how the show can continue without them. With live music, lots of slapstick and a zany hell for leather fight sequence, the audience is invited into the lives of the extended family both under and outside the big top as the cast are faced with each others attitudes to war. Since 1998, Alicia has been a director, performer and production manager with Circus Monoxide. She is now a full-time performer and Projects Manager with Circus Monoxide. Since the company moved to a training facility provided by Wollongong City Council in 2000, Alicia has also worked with Circus WOW (Wollongongs womens circus) as trainer, director and industry liaison. Alicia completed a BA in Theatre& Media at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst, completed a First Class BA Honors Performance Studies at Sydney University and a Masters degree at New York University (NYU) TISCH School of the Arts, for which she received an NYU Scholarship, Queens Trust Award (Arts) for Young Australians, Paullette Goddard (TISCH School) Scholarship and has twice received an Ian Potter Foundation study grant . Alicia is committed to growing Circus Monoxide to a contemporary circus company of internationally recognised excellence.
