FCA Team Awarded Community Engagement Grant

Journalism Lecturer Shawn Burns and Graphic Design Lecturer Jo Stirling have been awarded a Community Engagement Grant for their project entitled Shoalhaven Media Makers (SMM). The project aims to present a series of eight multi-media and social impact workshops, designed to equip young people in the Shoalhaven with skills and knowledge to produce mission-driven media.

Undertaken in partnership with Vibewire Youth Inc., a dynamic non-profit organisation that supports young people ‘to effectively shape their world through media, arts and entrepreneurial opportunities’, high schools in the Shoalhaven, and supported by UOW Shoalhaven campus, these workshops taking place in 2012 will deliver skills training in video presentation, interviewing, shooting and editing, graphic design and public engagement.

The final works from the participating schools will be showcased on UOWTV, as well as a purpose-built portal on the Vibewire web site, and potentially within their respective communities.
