Prizewinning UOW Journalism student puts Wollongong on national radio!
Rowan Dalgleish, a Postgraduate Journalism student, beat student journalists across Australia in 2008 to win a competition for best short feature run by ABC Radio National. For his prize, he got to make a full-length documentary with ABC Radio, which airs Saturday, 26 September on 360. In END of the LINE, Rowan, who worked in a factory in Wollongong throughout his studies, portrays his fellow-workers as they make starter buttons. The work's dull but the people on the line are finding ways to make life interesting – and they're glad just to have a job. That's until the factory hits a slump and it all unravels. We learn how they cope with achingly boring work, then with the far more painful threat of the loss of it. For some it’s an inspiration to live more fully.
360 feature, ABC Radio National - End of the Line.
Saturday 26 September at 2pm, repeat Wednesday 30 September at 1pm.
