The National Archives of Australia present a writers talk by Faculty of Creative Arts Lecturer and award winning author, Siobhan McHugh.

2009 marks the 60th anniversary of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electricity Scheme. The National Archives’ new display Power for the people celebrates this event.

Author of The Snowy:The People behind the Power, Siobhan will introduce the stories of the multinational workforce that built the huge Snowy Hydro-Electric Scheme in postwar Australia. Using excerpts from her extensive oral history collection, Siobhan will give inside views of personal stories of workers and their families.

Siobhan’s award-winning work ranges across social, cultural, scientific, environmental, multicultural and political themes. Her oral histories have been made into books, films, TV and radio documentaries, CDs, a stage play, and featured online. She lectures in journalism at the University of Wollongong.
