Six new plays written by students from the Faculty of Creative Arts (FCA) will premier in Wollongong on 17 June.
The plays were developed out of collaboration between Joshua Lobb, School of Journalism and Creative Writing, and Fiona Finlay of the Drama Studio at IPAC.
FCA students were commissioned to write short plays for young actors aged 15-18, providing an opportunity for the students to develop the scripts over a sustained period of time.
This first time collaboration has also given students the chance to experience an authentic commission-rehearsal-production process.
The FCA writers have been working with the actors from the Drama Studio since early April, workshopping and developing the scripts in rehearsal. The result is Tales of Brave Odysseus, works that re-write Homer’s text in surprising and comedic ways.
FCA student writers:
Marantonia Cara, Owen Everitt, Sarah Jobson, Paul Pearson (School of Journalism and Creative Writing)
Timothy Gillis-Jones (School of Music and Drama)
David Malloy (Dean’s Scholar)
