New Creative Arts Prizes for the Faculty Awards Night

The Faculty of Creative Arts celebrated its annual Awards Night on 19 May with the addition of five new sponsored awards for high achievement in 2008.

This year there were two winners of the Australian Press Council Prize, donated by the APC. Sarah Hamilton (Bachelor of Journalism/Bachelor of communication & Media Studies) and Lauren Wright (Bachelor of Journalism/Bachelor of Arts) were awarded this prize for the highest mark for a single piece of work worth at least 30% of the total subject Legal and Professional Issues for Journalists.

The Diana Wood Conroy Prize donated by Professor Diana Wood Conroy, was awarded to Roma Jakubow (Bachelor Creative Arts, Graphic Design & New Media). This prize was awarded for the best aggregate mark in third year core theory and studio subjects.

Guest presenters, Anne and Brennan Keats from Wirripang Publishing represented the Fellowship of Australian Composers' and awarded Cameron Rossiter (Bachelor of Creative Arts, Dean’s Scholar) the prize for Best Composition by an Undergraduate Composer for his work titled ‘Life’s a Witch’.

The Fellowship of Australian Composers' award for the Best Composition by a Postgraduate Composer, went to Andrée Greenwell (Doctor of Creative Arts), for the best composition composed during the course of enrolment and within the context of the degree, titled ‘The Villainelles’.

The Ignition: NAVA Graduating Student award donated by National Association Ltd, and presented by General Manager, Sam Wild, was given to Rachelle Balez for achieving the highest average mark in Visual Arts subjects in one year.

New Awards:

The Merrigong Theatre Company Performance Prize donated by the Merrigong Theatre Co @ IPAC and presented by Artistic Director/CEO Mr Simon Hinton went to Natalie Randall (Bachelor of Creative Arts, Performance).

The Merrigong Theatre Company Production Prize was awarded to Melanie Carolan (Bachelor of Creative Arts/Bachelor of Arts, Performance).

Donated by Nicholas Pounder and presented by Alan Wearne, the Nicholas Pounder Prize was awarded to Madelaine Dickie (Bachelor of Journalism/Bachelor of Creative Arts, Creative Writing) for the highest aggregate mark in all first year Creative Writing subjects.

The Illawarra Mercury Journalism Prize donated by the Illawarra Mercury and presented by Carol Johnstone, Deputy Editor was awarded to two Matthew Jones (Bachelor Communication & Media Studies) and Jacqueline Wales (Bachelor of Journalism) for achieving the highest aggregate mark in any two core subjects at second or third year level.

Finally, the Campus Alumni Chapter Honours Year Prize for the Faculty of Creative Arts was awarded to Sally Evans (Bachelor of Creative Arts Honours, Creative Writing).
