Citation awarded to leading Journalism educators
Professor Stephen Tanner and Marcus O’Donnell
The Australian Learning and Teaching Council (formerly the Carrick Institute) announced its 2008 list of citations for outstanding contributions to student learning this week and the Faculty of Creative Arts is proud to congratulate Professor Stephen Tanner and Marcus O’Donnell on their outstanding success.
The University of Wollongong (UOW) was listed as the number one university in the country, receiving the maximum of 10 citations that can be awarded to one university. From a total of 210 awards given nationally, only five universities gained eight or more citations.
Head of the Faculty’s School of Journalism and Creative Writing, Professor Stephen Tanner and Journalism Lecturer, Marcus O’Donnell received a citation for the engagement of media professionals and local community in ongoing review, implementation and refinement of a responsive and creative curriculum for journalism students.
The award received by the two Creative Arts staff members recognises the success of the Bachelor of Journalism (BJ) degree that was introduced to the Faculty in 2007. Expanding on the UOW’s existing programs, these innovative architects of the new BJ degree have forged a new direction in Australian journalism programs.
The degree provides budding journalists with sound and extensive ‘hands-on’ preparation for their chosen profession, combining passionate teaching staff with state of the art facilities including a Journalism Newsroom and the recently unveiled Convergent Journalism Studio.
