Faculty of Creative Arts Open Night

On 27 May 2008, the Faculty of Creative Arts held an Open Night for HSC students considering a degree in the creative industries.

The information evening was designed to provide school leavers and their parents with an opportunity to learn more about each area of study and the application process to gain entry.

The Faculty offers courses in Visual Arts, Graphic Design, Media Arts, Performance, Sound Composition and Music Production, Creative Writing and Journalism, making it the only Creative Arts Faculty in the state to combine such a wide range of study areas under one roof.

The galleries, studios and facilities within the Faculty were also open for inspection and academic staff, as well as current students were on hand to share their knowledge on the night.

Close to 300 HSC students and their families took advantage of the Open Night with the majority leaving very impressed and keen to study Creative Arts at the University of Wollongong. Feedback forms said the evening “was invaluable, especially in terms of what to expect from studying” and showed that “staff members have an immense passion for their subjects and craft”.

These events are a great opportunity for school leavers to gain perspectives from other students and graduates and get some tips on putting together their application and portfolio.

Areas open for viewing, with staff & students available to answer questions were:

Design Studio (163) with students’ work (including Media Arts) on display or projected
Visual Arts Studios (one or two) with students’ work on display
Newsroom (160) and Broadcast Studio (159) with examples of stories
