Five new Creative Arts Prizes for the Faculty Awards Night
The Faculty of Creative Arts held its inaugural Faculty Awards Night on 29 April, with a crowd of around 80 people attending the McKinnon building for the presentation of the Dean’s Merit Awards.
This was the first time the event has been held in its’ own right with twenty-eight recipients representing the top 5% of students across Creative Arts disciplines, receiving commendation for their achievements in 2007.
The highlight of the evening was the announcement and presentation of five new sponsored prizes, given to students of the Faculty.
Winner of the Australian Press Council Prize, donated by the APC, was Mary Prince (Bachelor of Journalism). This prize was awarded for the highest percentage for a single piece of work submitted for an assessment task worth at least 30% of the total subject in a journalism subject.
The Diana Wood Conroy Prize donated and presented by Professor Diana Wood Conroy, was awarded to Anthony Scerri (Bachelor Creative Arts, Visual Arts). This prize was awarded for the best aggregate mark in third year core theory and studio subjects.
Guest presenter, Julie Simonds from the Fellowship of Australian Composers' awarded a prize for Best Composition by a Postgraduate Composer to Dr Daniel Blinkhorn, for Air Masses, which was composed during the course of enrolment for his degree.
She also presented a second award from the Fellowship of Australian Composers' for the Best Composition by an Undergraduate Composer, which went to David Kirkpatrick (Bachelor of Creative Arts, Honours), for his piece titled Unite.
The Ignition: NAVA Graduating Student Award donated by National Association Ltd, and presented by General Manager, Sam Wild, was awarded to Anthony Scerri for achieving the highest average mark in Visual Arts subjects in one year.
Following the presentations, guests were entertained with performances by poetry band, The Bracket Creeps and an audio-visual arrangement by one of the winning composers, David Kirkpatrick.
