The Faculty of Creative Arts is delighted to present a talk by Maria Magdalena Schwaegermann, former artistic director of the international performance festival, Zuercher Theater Spekatel (2002-2007) and one of the founders and deputy director of the Hebbel Theater Berlin (1990-2002).
Ms Schwaegermann is in Australia to talk about her experiences producing, co-producing and programming a festival and permanent international performance space in Europe. Her presentation will include a discussion around scouting for new talent and support for young and emerging artists, as well the development of international industry networks. As part of her presentation Schwaegermann will introduce two new performance formats in Berlin: ‘Rimini Protokoll’ and ‘Schwarzmarkt’ or ‘Black Market of Useful Knowledge and Non-knowledge’.
‘Rimini Protokoll’ is constituted by a collective of artists creating a form of documentary theatre based on collaboration with ‘everyday experts’ (Experten des Alltags). ‘Schwarzmarkt’ is an insightful, often very private dialogue and theatrical gesture that brings together specialists from a range of fields to discuss contemporary issues and for its creator, Hannah Hurtzig, the aim of ‘Schwarzmarkt’ is to devise new spaces of learning.
