Curator of the University of Wollongong Art Collection, Glenn Barkley, will be traveling to Tamworth Regional Gallery for the exhibition he co-curated with Dr Deborah Hart (UoW/FCA Alumni) - 'Home Sweet Home - Works From the Peter Fay Collection'.
The exhibition is toured and presented by the National Gallery of Australia and is an insight into one of Australia's most intriguing contemporary art collections. Two decades ago Peter Fay began accumulating the work of emerging artists and has developed broad-ranging yet idiosyncratic overview of what is sometimes called 'outsider art'. Without regard for the accepted hierarchies of the art world, Fay's vision challenges the status quo and throws light to some surprising and otherwise overlooked work.
The NGA describes the exhibition as revealing "the passions of a collector who, since the 1980s, has supported emerging artists from Australia and New Zealand and has watched their careers develop." The collection includes diverse media such as object-based works, photography, drawing, painting and video.
Glenn is opening the exhibition as well as presenting a floor talk on the afternoon of the 19th March. The exhibition opens on the 19th March - 8th May.

SEPARATE JOURNEYS - 15-27th March 2005 GIG Gallery 70A Glebe Point Rd, Glebe 2037
VIRGINIA KAISER - Sculptural and vessel Forms LIZ JENEID - Works on Paper, artist books and objects These two artists, who have exhibited widely in Australia and overseas, worked together in Liz Jeneid's weaving studio in the early 80's in Rozelle as master and apprentice with funding assistance from the Apprenticeship Traineeship Program, Crafts Board of the Australia Council. Since then they have lived in different states in Australia, travelled extensively and both now live south of Sydney in Wollonong and the Southern Highlands. Liz Jeneid is currently an Honorary Fellow in the Faculty of Creative Arts, University of Wollongong and Virginia Kaiser is also teaching in the faculty. It seems that a pattern is emerging, one of separation and coming together. This exhibition references textile practices in Virginia's constructed works and in Liz's delicately formed knitted insects. Both artists have extended their vocabulary since weaving together, and the work in this exhibition demonstrates their separate journeys.
