Archived News Items: August 2004 Internationally acclaimed classical pianist Stephen Hough will be giving a one-night only concert to the people of Wollongong. The School of Music and Drama at the University of Wollongong's Faculty of Creative Arts will host the evening of music featuring Viennese and Spanish classical pieces. Hough has emerged as a unique presence on the international scene with a particular interest in discovering unusual and neglected works. He has played with some of the world's finest orchestras and gives recitals regularly in major halls and series around the world.  Wollongong's version of the Archibald Prize open.... An exhibition tagged the Wollongong version of the "Archibald Prize" will opened Thursday (August 12th) in the Long Gallery at the University of Wollongong.
The HEADS exhibition of portraits is a combined staff and students exhibition of the Illawarra Institute of Technology and the Faculty of Creative Arts and is being held for the third successive year. Jacky Redgate Survey Exhibition 1980 - 2003 (Exhibition #3) at the CACSA Opens 3th July, and runs until 29th August, 2004. The last of the three exhibitions by Australian Artist Jacky Redgate, it encapsulates Redgate's prolific art practice with her photographic series A Picture is No Substitute for Anything [1996]. Life of the System[1998], Untitled Day [2000], and StraightCut [2002-03]. This survey, complimented by a soon-to-be-published monograph, and an Artist Residency in Adelaide in conjunction with the School of Art (Uni of SA), is the CACSA's first major career presentation of an Australian artist, and will be Redgate's first major exhibition in Adelaide. The survey will tour the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney in 2005. The University of Wollongong has received its biggest ever donation by Dr Douglas Kagi - a collection of 70 prints by eminent English artists from the second half of the 20th century valued at $200,000. Artists include Richard Hamilton, Peter Blake, Joe Tilson and Paula Rego. An exhibition of the artworks will take place at the Wollongong City Gallery on July 30. Five Islands Press and The Poetry Australia Foundation present "New Poets 10 Roadshow 2004" a performance of poetry across the continent. Featuring new publications from new Australian Poets including Lucy Alexander's "Feathered Tongues". Lucy completed a Honours degree in Creative Writing at the University of Wollongong in 1997. She has published poems in Australian and overseas journals and newspapers. She says that "current news events inspire her work". She is currently completing a Masters in Creative Arts Research course at UoW. "New Poets 10 Roadshow 2004" will be launched at Gleebooks, 49 Glebe Point Road, Sydney, on Saturday 7 August at 2.30pm.
