Peer Gynt: A play of extraordinary differences

15 May, 2006

The University of Wollongong’s Faculty of Creative Arts will be presenting their graduating students in the contemporary production of Henrik Ibsen’s Peer Gynt.

Directed by Patrick Nolan, a celebrated director who has worked for Opera Australian, NIDA and the Sydney and  Melbourne Theatre Companies, First published in 1867, Peer Gynt is considered one of the great works of modern drama, packing as much punch now as it did then. We however hope not to have the production closed by the censor as the first production was.

Telling the bold and comic story of Peer Gynt, a man in search of his identity, the play inhabits a world of recklessness and imagination. Peer is a character who knows no boundaries, surrendering to every impulse pertaining to women and sex, violence and drunkenness.

This is the first time the School of Music and Drama has  combined the resources of all its departments: Music and Composition, Graphic Design and Drama have all come together to  create a spectacular  production incorporating live music and state of the art video technology and some of the School’s finest acting talent.

Peer Gynt will be showing at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre from the 24th to the 27th of May. Bookings can be made through IPAC, call 42263366.
