UOW bids farewell to Art from a Northern Colony
and welcomes visiting Artist

After an exciting month, the University of Wollongong is preparing to bid farewell to an innovative Canadian Art Exhibition. 

Art from a Northern Colony: Capilano College Faculty & Staff Exhibition arrived in the Illawarra in early February as part of an international exchange between our local University and the Capilano College of Vancouver and has been showing at the FCA Gallery, University of Wollongong, since 9 February.

The exhibit is in its last days and will culminate with a formal closing featuring special guest, Associate Professor Barbara Layne - a visiting artist and academic from Concordia University, Montreal.

Sponsored by the University Internationalisation Committee, Ms Lane has been invited to Wollongong to speak with academics and students about her research into the fusion of textiles and electronics and also brings with her studies from the research institute Hexagram that she co-founded in Montreal.

This international exhibit from the faculty and staff of the Canadian college, coinciding with Ms Layne’s visit, highlights the growing international standing of the University of Wollongong. 

Following on from this exhibit, an exhibition from Wollongong's own Faculty of Creative Arts staff will be shown at the Capilano College in Canada in 2007.   Coordinator of the exchange, Dr Penny Harris from the Faculty of Creative Arts, School of Art & Design, hopes to arrange a similar event with staff at Concordia University in the future.

The closing will be held at the FCA Gallery, University of Wollongong, on Thursday 9 March at 12.30 and will be the last chance for the Illawarra community to experience Art from a Northern Colony!  All are welcome.

Admission to the exhibition and formal closing is free.
