2011 Portfolio Requirements

Applicants must apply to the Faculty in addition to UAC (HSC students only) or Directly to UOW. The requirements listed below are only a guide and applicants will be notified of final portfolio/ interview requirements after the close of applications. Please do not send your portfolio until you have received notification from the Faculty.

Bachelor of Creative Arts (Dean’s Scholar)

If you wish to undertake the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Dean’s Scholar) program you need to prepare the following:

• Statement of why you wish to study the Dean’s Scholar Program (250 – 500 words); and

• A copy of your CV including academic achievements, training and/or qualifications, extra curricular activities etc.

The Dean’s Scholar program is open to applicants with an ATAR of 90 and above and combines two major areas of study within the Bachelor of Creative Arts degree. Applicants will also need to prepare a portfolio for the two areas they have chosen. Please refer the individual categories listed below. (Only certain combinations of majors are applicable- see Dean’s Scholar Program for more information).

Bachelor of Creative Arts: Creative Writing

If you wish to undertake a Bachelor of Creative Arts, Creative Writing, you need to submit the following:

• A hardcopy portfolio including 3 – 4 examples of what you consider to be your best work. This can include prose, poetry, script or a combination of these. Portfolios will not be returned.

• Statement of why you wish to study Creative Writing (250 words).

Bachelor of Creative Arts: Theatre
Bachelor of Performance

If you wish to undertake the Bachelor of Creative Arts, Theatre or Bachelor of Performance, you will have to attend an audition (Production applicants may also need to attend an interview). At the audition you will be required to:

• Present a monologue. You will need to choose one (1) from a selection supplied by the Faculty and posted to you in October/ November;

• Present one (1) song of your choice. It should display your vocal range and ability. A pianist will be available to accompany all applicants (sheet music to be provided by the auditionee).You may not use CD accompaniment;

• Statement of why you wish to study Theatre or Performance (250 words).

• Bring a photograph of yourself;

• Bring a copy of your CV (optional).

Bachelor of Creative Arts: Visual Arts
Bachelor of Creative Arts: Graphic Design

If you wish to undertake the Bachelor of Creative Arts majoring in Visual Arts or Graphic Design, you will need to prepare a CD portfolio containing examples relevant to the major you are applying for. This can include:

• Examples of paintings, drawings, sculpture, textiles, photography, video, web pages or graphic design.

• Up to 3 photographs of your HSC major work.

• Statement of why you wish to study Visual Arts or Graphic Design (250 words).

If you chose to submit a hardcopy (paper) portfolio, your submissions should be no larger than A3 and should not include any originals. Portfolios will not be returned.

Bachelor of Journalism

If you wish to undertake a Bachelor of Journalism, you need to prepare the following:

    • Statement of why you want to be a journalist and what skills you would bring to the profession (no more than 250 words);

    • Explain the main problems facing journalism today (no more than 400 words); and

    Optional - Portfolio of published work or work experience in a media organisation (no more than 5 examples). Portfolios will not be returned.

Bachelor of Digital Media

If you wish to undertake the Bachelor of Digital Media, you will need to prepare CD portfolio containing examples of your work. Your portfolio should include a selection of the following work from the last two years:

• Examples of drawings, photographs, and storyboards (up to 10 examples);

• Digital images or photographs (up to 10 examples); and

• Statement of why you wish to study the Bachelor of Digital Media

All images need to be digital image files in JPEG or TIFF format.
Animations should be presented in Quicktime or SWF format.
Video should be presented as a Quicktime file or AVI file.
