5th International Conference
on
Educational Leadership
"Distributive Leadership"
University of Wollongong
16 – 17 February 2006
The Centre is pleased to announce its Fifth Annual
International Conference on Educational Leadership scheduled for
16 and 17 February 2006 at the Wollongong Campus (Building 67, McKinnon
Building) of the University of Wollongong. The Conference is co-sponsored by the NSW Department of Education and Training, the Catholic
Diocese of Wollongong, Australian College of Educators (NSW), Australian
Council of Educational Leaders, and the University of Wollongong
Faculty of Education.
We expect to attract 300 participants, both local
and international.
The theme centres on the need for collaboration, team building and
collegiality and genuine empowerment of people working in rapidly
changing, turbulent, diverse and complex organizational environments.
In contrast to heroic or apex leadership, the enactment, nurturing
and sustainability of a distributive leadership culture is very
much connected to the commitment and willingness of leaders at all
levels to distribute power and help others to exercise personal
and professional responsibility, grow and succeed.
The values underpinning distributive leadership
are consistent with recent movements in education such as Teacher
Leadership, Parallel Leadership, Shared Leadership, Authentic Leadership
and the Learning Community.
The keynote speakers include Professor Bill Mulford
(University of Tasmania), Professor Patrick Duignan (Australian
Catholic University), Cheryl O’Connor (CEO Australian College
of Educators), Professor Steve Dinham (University of Wollongong)
and Ms Christine Nixon APM (Chief Commissioner, Victoria Police).
Assoc. Professor Neil Cranston (University of Queensland) is our
After Dinner Speaker.
Integral to the Conference is a series of workshop
presentations led by eminent and emerging educational leaders and
practitioners. They include Ann McIntyre (NSW Department of Education
and Training), Dr Michael Bezzina (Director RE and Education Services,
CEO Parramatta), Howard Youngs (Unitec Institute of Technology,
Auckland), Allan Morgan (Educational consultant in leadership and
organizational renewal, Queensland), and Steve Money (Jakarta International
School).
Participants in our Conferences are typically
school leaders, teachers, school leadership teams, systemic administrators
from the government and non-government education systems, trainers
and management educators, and university academics.
