COURSE
OUTLINE
This course has been developed to provide users and reviewers
of flood models with an
understanding of the capabilities of a representative group
of current spatially aware tools and modeling software for
Advanced Flood Modeling. The course is centered on a
relatively inexpensive (but highly capable) pre and post processor
(SMS) and its use to create and run the public domain hydraulic
models HEC-RAS and Flo2dh. Copies of the
executables tutorials and support documentation for the hydraulic
models will be provided on CD to attendees, together with
a demonstration version of SMS.
COURSE PRESENTER
The course will be presented by Ted Rigby, a consultant with
specialised interests in the fields of hydrology and hydraulics
and their application in flood modeling. Ted has over thirty
years experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling. and
is a co-author, with Dr Michael Boyd and Rudi Van Drie, of
the wbnm hydrology model. Ted is a user with some 15 years
of experience with what is now called Flo2dh, a long term
user of SMS and beta tester of the Hec-Ras program Ted’s
experience spans the birth and development of modern computer
based hydrologic and hydraulic software, providing a sound
foundation for this presentation.
