GeoQuEST RESEARCH CENTRE
Water Quality in the Illawarra-South Coast Region
Symposium, 7-8 June, 2007
University of Wollongong Function Centre
There has been extensive recent discussion and media coverage on water quantity issues, but water quality does not often receive much publicity unless a major problem occurs (algal blooms, fish kills etc). Poor water quality, never the less, has major environmental social and economic impacts.
This symposium will lead to the publication of information that facilitates better understanding of the issues relating to water quality. The availability of this form of information should lead to better environmental decision-making and greater transparency as to the impact of activities that have the potential to change water quality. The organisers plan to publish a peer-reviewed proceedings of the symposium. Opportunities will also be available for poster presentations. Students are invited to attend. A modest registration fee ($220 including GST, $110 including GST for registered students) will be charged to cover the costs of running the meeting, and the publication of the proceedings.
