About the Marketing Discipline

"future focused"

To be successful, marketers need to understand the present and plan for success in the future by placing an emphasis on the establishment of viable and lasting relationships. It is this approach that the Marketing Discipline at the University of Wollongong applies in its endeavours to establish relationships with its major stakeholders - students, staff, industry and government. From a solid foundation of current academic and practitioner knowledge, our discipline seeks to be 'future focused' and establish viable and lasting relationships with its stakeholders by contributing to the success of each. Importantly it is the marketing specialisations taught and the research pursued by the discipline that provides the linkage with its stakeholders.

Undergraduate students are able to study marketing as either a major or minor in the Bachelor of Commerce. In addition, students undertaking other degrees throughout the university select marketing as a second major or minor due to the relevance of marketing to their future careers.

Marketing subjects are also offered in the Bachelor of Business Administration. Students having specific enquiries about studying marketing at UOW are welcome to contact the undergraduate coordinator for marketing Mr Geoff McLean at gmclean@uow.edu.au

Postgraduate students enrol in a program which is tailored to their career goals, and has been designed to provide participants with a comprehensive and relevant understanding of business and marketing concepts. Enquiries regarding postgraduate marketing should be directed to the postgraduate coordinator for marketing Mr Robert Grant at rgrant@uow.edu.au

The Marketing Discipline has a priority of establishing a strong network to assist students with their studies and their careers. The discipline is supportive of the student body, 'The M & M Society', and is building on its existing relationships with professional marketing institutes and high profile employers who can offer our graduates exiting careers in marketing. Many of our marketing graduates have international postings while others have senior positions with Australian companies, government and not-for-profits. Others have successfully pursued their own business interests.

The marketing discipline at the University of Wollongong is 'well balanced'. It consists of high profile researchers including Professors John Rossiter, Sara Dolnicar and Judy Motion. Dr Gary Noble is leading the discipline's involvement in social marketing research and teaching. Importantly, our discipline also consists of academics who also have extensive experience in industry, and as such, make a valuable contribution to teaching and industry partnerships. Our discipline is 'future focused' as it strives to contribute to both successful careers and research outcomes.
