From 2011, every commencing higher-degree research student will be offered a new laptop, which they can use at their workstation and use from their home.

Funding

We recognise that the ability to attend conferences, deliver papers, test research ideas and network with your peers is critical to the successful completion of your research.

In addition to workstations, printing, photocopying and internet access, every higher-degree research (HDR) student is entitled to financial assistance through the HDR Support Scheme for:

  • Approved conference travel
  • Approved short course enrolment
  • Approved editing support for research articles and theses
  • Approved field travel for data collection

PhD students: $3500 over the student’s candidature
Masters Research students: $1750 over the student’s candidature

Scholarships & awards

UOW offers a range of research scholarships and awards to eligible domestic and international higher-degree research (HDR) students. There are also external scholarship opportunities and discipline-specific and industry-based scholarships.

Closing dates
Scholarships commencing Autumn Session – mid-October
Scholarships commencing Spring Session – mid-March

Domestic students (Australian or New Zealand citizens, or Australian permanent residents)

International students (non-Australian citizens enrolled, or who will enrol, in a course of study with a higher education provider)

Academic support

Research students work closely with our recognised experts in one-on-one or small group situations and in a relaxed environment.

Your supervisor and the faculty are here to support you throughout your project – emotionally and intellectually.
