Requirements for HDR Supervisors within the Faculty of Commerce

For a staff member to be a primary supervisor of HDR students in Commerce the following criteria have to be met:

Primary supervisors must:
  1. Hold the level of qualification to which they are supervising (PhD for PhD students or a Masters Research for Masters Research students) and have a continuing appointment.
  2. Have completed the University’s program of four supervision modules.
  3. Have supervised at least two HDR students to completion as Secondary supervisor before becoming a Primary supervisor.
  4. Have completed their HDR award no less than two years before taking on the role of Primary supervisor.
  5. Be considered active researchers with a proven research track record (at least 3 journal articles over the past six years).

Also, it is a requirement that no supervisor should be involved in no more than five HDR supervisions, except if they are mentoring less experienced staff members in supervison.
