Commerce Research Wing - Guidelines
The new Commerce Research Winghas been designed to provide an excellent research environment for the Faculty's growing number of research students. It is a state-of-the-art facility that we believe provides the best of its kind in IT, individualized space, seminar and presentation facilities and general research resources.
The Faculty has developed the following guidelines to ensure that this facility remains a functional, productive and comfortable work environment for its students.
Each student entitled to use the Research Wing should have a copy of the Commerce Research Wing Handbook for 2008. You should retain this booklet for reference, though its contents may be subject to change at any time. You will be informed of any changes in policy that affect you and your usage of the building.

- The Commerce Research Wing is for Commerce HDR students, Honour's students, Dean's Scholars and assigned research assistants only. Under no circumstances are students from other faculties or other Commerce students to occupy the building.
- Security: Each full-time PhD student will be issued with an access swipe card. Access will only be through the front door of the building (All other doors will be locked with fire-alarmed access only). Swipe cards must be used when entering and leaving the building. This system will record movement of students for the Faculty's benefit. A surveillance camera will also be mounted at the entrance for extra security.
Each student is responsible for their own swipe card. Under no circumstances can swipe cards be lent to other students for access. If the Faculty finds evidence of a student indulging in this practice, that student will have their access rights to the building suspended.
- Students need to ensure they are familiar with these Research Wing IT Guidelines.
- Students are asked to respect the quiet environment of the work area. Noise and disruption is to be kept to a minimum at all times. If students need to meet for discussion, they are encouraged to use one of the 'break-out' offices located on each floor, a seminar room or move outside the building. If a student has to be warned repeatedly about disruption to the work areas, they will have their access rights to the building suspended.
- For those students who are involved in tutoring there is to be no consultation in the building between tutors and their students. Any such consultation should be undertaken in the tutors rooms provided within the Schools. If consultations are found to be occurring, a warning will be issued to the tutor responsible. If a second incident occurs involving the same tutor, access rights to the building will be suspended.
- There will be a designated eating area on the ground floor, in the seminar room next to the kitchen. All food must be prepared and eaten in these areas. While coffee and other drinks will be allowed at individual work-stations, no food can be prepared or eaten in any other area.

- All matters relating to the research culture and environment of this Research Wing will be under the direction of the Faculy Research Unit.
