Commerce Early Entry
Autumn Session 2009 Intake

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the Early Entry Process?

A: It is an online system. You will be required to register your details online and will receive email letters with instructions. You will also be required to enter your Trial HSC results online and mail a copy of results (certified by a Justice of the Peace) to the Faculty’s Early Entry Co-ordinator.

Q. What happens if I lose my password?

A: The login page will direct you to a lost password page where you enter your email address and a new password will be sent to you.

Q. Are my personal details confidential?

A: The University of Wollongong is committed to protecting your privacy. UOW (including its controlled entities) will take all reasonable steps to ensure that the collection, use, disclosure and handling of your personal information complies with both the Privacy and Personal Information Act 1998 (NSW) and the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 (Cth). The University's Privacy Policy may be viewed here or by calling 1300 367 869 (within Australia).

Q. Can I apply for more than one early entry program?

A: Yes, and double degrees (if both are offered through Early Entry).

Q. If I am applying for a double degree, will I be assessed by both faculties?

A: For all double degrees you do NOT need to register an application with the Faculty of Commerce. If you are successful in your application for Early Entry into a double degree with a faculty other than Commerce, your offer is valid for that double degree.

Q. Why is early entry not offered for Bachelor of Commerce at Loftus?

A: This is the first year that the Bachelor of Commerce has been offered at Loftus. There will be a limited intake in 2009.

Q. Can I defer my early entry offer?

A: Yes, for one year. Once a place is offered, it is just like any other offer.

Q. How and when do I get my early entry offer?

A: You will be notified of the outcome of your EE application online before you sit your HSC.

Q. Can I apply for a scholarship?

A: Yes – all students can apply for scholarships. Applications close 30 September 2007. The Faculty encourages students to apply.

Q. What type of questions will be asked if I get an interview?

A: The interview will provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate to us that you are enthusiastic and committed to studying in the Faculty of Commerce. Questions will be based on your interest in the course and the relevant subjects you have undertaken at school as well as extra-curricular activities such as work experience, community involvement, outstanding achievements or awards.

Q. What happens if I don’t get Early Entry

A: You are at no disadvantage if you apply for our Early Entry program and don’t receive an offer.  We encourage you to use the interview process to ask any questions you may have about University study or the University of Wollongong or the Faculty of Commerce.

Q. My friend got the same trial mark as me and they got early entry and I didn’t?

A: While we can't discuss with you your friend’s application – you should know that there are a number of factors that influence our decision about whether or not to grant an Early Entry Offer, not just the Trial HSC Marks.

Q. I was granted an early entry but it is not on my UAC offer?

A: It is important that you place the course you most want at the top of your UAC preference list. To receive an offer for a course for which an Early Entry place has been guaranteed, it would need to be the highest eligible preference with UAC.

Q. If I apply for early entry do I have to make it my first preference:

A: No. The offer will be made when the course becomes your highest eligible preference.

Q. What is a ‘Justice of the Peace’?

A: A Justice of the Peace is a local elected official with the authority to witness documents and can be found in your local hometown in locations such as chemists, doctors, schools, etc.

Q. What does a 'certified copy' mean?

A: A certified copy is a photocopy of a document (such as Trial HSC report), sighted and signed as a genuine copy by a Justice of the Peace.

Q. Justice of Peace Location

A: Student Central, Building 17, University of Wollongong, has a JP service available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9.00am to 10.00am.
