Dr Gary Noble, Director of the Centre for Social Marketing Research (Commerce) will be working with the Disability Trust as his community partner. They plan to undertake a census-based survey of the current and future needs of children with disabilities and their carers in the Illawarra. It will be the first census of its kind ever undertaken in the Illawarra.

Are teenagers influenced to smoke and drink by slick marketing campaigns? Do fast food advertisements on television contribute to childhood obesity, diabetes and lung cancer?
These questions will be answered on Monday, 1st August when the University of Wollongong receives a visit from a world-leading social marketing expert who will be promoting healthy living at a special public forum.
Professor Gerard Hastings and his colleagues at the Institute of Social Marketing and the UK Centre for Tobacco and Control Research at the University of Stirling in Scotland have found that the marketing of alcohol, cigarettes and fast food is implicated in health-threatening consumption.

The Centre for Social Marketing Research at the University of Wollongong is undertaking the first study of its kind in the Illawarra to examine the philanthropic attitudes of small to medium enterprises (SMEs) in the region.
Dr Gary Noble said the study aimed to explore the "helping" or "giving" attitudes and behaviour of SMEs in the Illawarra. |
