The School of Economics
The School of Economics has a vibrant undergraduate and graduate teaching program, which includes a strong honours and PhD component. We have a stimulating research culture with many highly successful and productive scholars, and we are home to three research centres.
Bachelor of Economics and Finance – 2012
In 2012, the School of Economics and the School of Accounting and Finance will offer a Bachelor of Economics and Finance degree.
Students graduating with this degree will have significant analytical, critical thinking and research skills in the areas of economics and finance and will thus be highly sought after by private and public sector employers both in Australia and internationally. Specific occupations include financial controller, economic forecaster, stock trader, policy advisor, financial journalist and financial planner. Employers include consultancy firms, commercial and merchant banks, government, educational institutions, NGOs and research organisations.

ECON 231: The Creative Economy – Autumn 2012
The School of Economics is committed to provide an economic education that goes beyond the traditional boundaries of the economic science. In line with this end, a new subject will be launched in the Autumn Session 2012, namely: The Creative Economy. This subject seeks to enhance students understanding of the modern economy by endowing them with appropriate conceptual tools to gain an understanding of an ideas-driven economy.
ECON 231 is not compulsory in any of the existing Major/Minors. However, it is a ‘Named elective’ in the following Majors/Minors:
Business Innovation (Major and Minor);
Major in International Economics;
Minor in Economics of Environmental Sustainability; and
Minor in Economies of Asia.
