Andrew Tan is the lecturer in finance in the School of Accounting and Finance at the University of Wollongong. Andrew holds a Bachelor of Financial Administration and a Bachelor of Laws (with honours) from the University of New England, and obtained a Masters of Commerce and PhD, both majoring in finance, from the University of Sydney. Prior to joining the School, he was an associate lecturer in the Discipline of Finance at the University of Sydney.
Andrew was awarded a SIRCA scholarship and completed his PhD under the supervision of Professor Alex Frino and Dr Elvis Jarnecic. During his doctoral studies, he was based for a period at the Sydney Futures Exchange, where as visiting economist, he conducted research in the Business Development section which has led to key product developments. Andrew's research interests and expertise are in market microstructure and security design in financial markets, particularly in the futures markets. He has published in international refereed journal and has presented in conferences both locally and overseas. His research on price discovery in the Australian Dollar market was one of nine papers selected for presentation at the Asian-Pacific Futures Research Symposium held in 2005 in Bangkok.
Andrew has taught finance subjects in various capacities at the University of Sydney for over 8 years. He was involved in conducting the tutor development courses as a presenter and has been nominated 3 times for the Faculty's annual excellence in tutoring award since its inception in 2004. Watching his students graduate and moving on to greater things in life is one of the most rewarding moments of his academic career.
