Fifty TAFE students attend the UOW Commerce Study Options Day

The Faculty of Commerce hosted the first UOW Commerce TAFE study options day on Wednesday 29 July and achieved a great turnout with over fifty TAFE students attending to learn about the new Bachelor of Commerce degree including how to apply, enrol and arrange for advance standing for their TAFE studies. Commerce student Brad Parkinson gave a compelling presentation about his transition from TAFE to university.

‘University can be intimidating,’ said TAFE student Luise Gordon. ‘So it was good to gain a real perspective, from Brad, to hear it from a student who has moved from TAFE to UOW.’

The students were briefed by UOW academics – Associate Professor Michael Zanko and Ron Perrin – about the new Bachelor of Commerce degree and how to gain advanced standing. Amanda Woolsey of UniAdvice also gave a presentation about entry pathways to university.

‘I’m keen to do a degree a here and it was great to hear from academics today,’ said Lauren Churchill. ‘The intimate setting was more informative than large scale information evenings.’

Students in attendance came from Illawarra Institute of TAFE Wollongong, West Wollongong and Shellharbour.
