Over 240 people attend the Commerce student awards night
Over 240 people attended the UOW Commerce student awards event on Thursday evening 30 April. Business sponsors, staff, students and their guests came together to recognise and celebrate the achievements of Commerce students throughout the 2008 academic year. 25 local businesses provided a financial bonus to accompany the 46 awards for outstanding effort.
"In the current economic climate I’m particularly grateful for the ongoing support of the local businesses," said Professor Shirley Leitch, UOW Dean of Commerce. "This continuing support is a sign of how strongly committed the community is to our students and to the University."
The Dean presented 46 awards to over 100 Commerce students. Representatives from the local business community included DMW group; Illawarra Credit Union, Bluescope; John Wiley Australia; KPMG; and BHP.
Speaking on behalf of all student award recipients, Tanya Livermore thanked the Faculty for acknowledging academic excellence and sponsors for supporting the awards: "These awards not only reward the recipient, but provide motivation for students who can potentially receive these awards in the future."
