IT Objectives of the Commerce IT Support Unit

  • Integrated services (procurement, asset management, strategic planing, IT professional training) to provide a more consistent & reliable local IT environment and minimize costs;
  • Co-ordinate IT purchasing - enabling lower unit costs per computer as the number of computers being purchased increases.
  • IT Support team is structured into a two tier support model:
    Tier 1: Desktop Support & Deployment
    Provides support services to all staff and students within the Faculty

    Tier 2: Systems Support
    Focuses on more complex support issues, administer & maintain the local network servers, systems development (in-house programming, web development & maintenance) and serves as a "safety net" for tier one support.

    Tier one support is the "first port of call" for all users. Tier two support serves as a "safety net".

Goals of the Commerce IT Support Unit

  • To provide efficient, high quality localised IT services in support and management of desktop systems & local networks
  • Committed to providing a high standard of quality customer service to staff and students of the Faculty
  • Develop, in conjunction with the Faculty and Schools strategies for the growing IT needs of the Faculty;
  • Work with the University community to provide a progressive information technology environment.

Faculty of Commerce IT Policies

  • Procurement of computers by the faculty (including UOW research and consultancy accounts) will be sourced under the UOW "preferred supplier" arrangement and co-ordinated and managed by the Commerce IT Support Unit.

    It should be noted that any equipment purchased out of consultancy/research funds remain the property of the University and the Commerce IT Support Unit is responsible for managing the procurement of such equipment.
  • Procurement of IT peripherals by the faculty (including UOW research and consultancy accounts) will be co-ordinated and management by the Commerce IT Support Unit.
  • The management of assets (including UOW research and consultancy accounts) recording and tracking will be the responsibility of the Commerce IT Support Unit.
  • The disposal of all computer equipment (including those funded by research and consultancy funds) will be done in accordance with the procedures described in the UOW Asset Policy and co-ordinated and managed by the Commerce IT Support Unit.
