Support of Home computers

As a value-added service to staff within the Faculty, the IT Support Unit will support UOW work related-activities for home computers. Support for home computers will only be performed when the equipment is brought into the Commerce IT Support Unit by
arrangement. Please schedule your service request before bringing in your desktop from home to ensure a minimum turnaround period.

Only UOW type activities will be undertaken on the machine (eg: remote dial-in configuration, UOW software installs, troubleshoot computers with UOW work related problems).

If personally owned home desktop computers or laptops are experiencing hardware or other software problems i.e. hard drive failures or system errors, users are encouraged to take their computer to a local computer repair shop. If the option exists, take the extended warranty offered by computer vendors, which often pays for itself in the long run.

For personal purchases, the IT Support Unit staff will be glad to advise you regarding your requirements and suitable vendor.
