Guidelines

Participant Guidelines

Participants in the Spotlight Program will receive a copy of their professionally designed and printed poster after the Expo for which it is designed. Successful applicants are required to,

  • submit text for a poster in accordance with the word limit or negotiate the refinement of the text for the poster genre with the assistance of a CEDIR peer.
  • adhere to production deadlines, standards and the learning and teaching focus of the project.
  • attend the Spotlight expo with the poster and provide an exposition of the learning and teaching initiative to an audience.
  • succinctly outline the learning and teaching initiative on film for a maximum of two minutes.
  • provide more extensive information on the area for the website.

Process

A UOW wide email will invite academics, and those involved in teaching, to submit an application to showcase and share learning and teaching initiatives through poster, video clip, text, web placement, peer assistance and conversation with an audience. There will be a limit of 10 posters per production cycle but no limit on participants who already have suitable posters and wish to participate in an Expo. The CEDIR team will provide,

  • a free poster to be the property of the academic after the Expo.
  • culling of applicants according to guidelines and order of receipt of application.
  • initial consultation and editorial meeting with a CEDIR academic to agree on poster text, content, photo and diagram quality and deadlines. Standard requirement will be for academics to express the elements of their work in approximately100 words and provide or suggest images and diagrams that will enhance a poster design.
  • a final meeting with a CEDIR academic and graphic designer to refine the poster layout.
  • a template for the placement of the copy, high resolution pictures and diagrams emailed as PDF to the academic to agree on the poster design.
  • video recording of a 1.5min segment, spoken by the academic, outlining their project.
  • a peer audience, if required, to rehearse video script prior to recording.
  • the venue for the academic to speak about their poster.
  • an organised display and accompanying sustenance for exhibitors.

  • November 22nd 2007 In conjunction with the Academic Integrity Symposium, McKinnon Building Foyer, (Bld. 67) 10.30-11.00am
  • June 18th 2008, associated with The Emerging Technologies Conference.
  • Other dates and locations to be advised
