Learning Design

What we do

The Learning Design unit has been facilitating sound pedagogical design of eTeaching since its inception in January 2002. The learning design process values academic partnership and aims to maximise staff development opportunities during the development of educational experiences for our students.

Learning Design philosophy is one of sharing good eTeaching practice within a Framework of Re-usable Learning Designs that are focused on the current teaching priorities of the University of Wollongong. These currently include multi-location teaching, post-graduate coursework, and work integrated learning.

How we do it

Learning Designers work with individuals and teams of academics, and in partnership with Academic Services Division staff to develop new and revised eTeaching tasks, assessments and resources at a subject, course or program level.

Learning Design staff are allocated to projects based on their expertise regarding discipline, pedagogy or technology. See the table below for more information about our Learning Designers.

Evaluating and Sharing our work

Learning Designers are committed to evaluating and sharing our work, both informally (staff consultation, staff development, inputting cases into the CEDIR Sharing Good Practice in Technology and Teaching searchable database) and formally via publication in peer-reviewed journals, books and conferences. Learning Designers are part of a community of practitioners who value the Scholarship of eTeaching – it’s an important part of our profession.

Here are a few of our recent publications.
