Embedding Graduate Attributes: ideas on policy, planning and teaching graduate attributes from the University of Sydney.

Seminars by Dr Simon Barrie, Institute for Teaching and Learning, University of Sydney Tuesday 11th April, 2006.

Dr Simon Barrie is a leading researcher in the teaching, learning and assessment of graduate attributes, and heads the University of Sydney's Graduate Attributes Project. Simon works on graduate attributes strategic planning and was instrumental in the University's adoption of an innovative two-tiered statement of graduate attributes. He also has extensive expertise in supporting faculty-based interpretation of graduate attributes, and the embedding of approaches to teaching and assessment that support students' attainment of generic skills. During his visit to Wollongong, Dr Barrie will share his expertise and experience via two seminars:

Policy and Planning for Graduate Attributes

During this seminar, Dr Barrie will explain the background to the University of Sydney's approach to formulating and supporting the dissemination and implementation of graduate attribute learning. This seminar will include time for questions and discussion and would suit those working in policy and strategic planning to support dissemination of graduate attributes, in Faculty management, or those on University Education Committee. Experiences and Examples of faculty-based Teaching and Assessment of Graduate Attributes

During this seminar, Dr Barrie will discuss the challenges and outcomes of contextualizing graduate attributes for the various faculties at the University of Sydney. There will be opportunities to engage in collaborative development of curricula strategies drawing on some of the examples of innovative practice gathered by the Sydney project. This seminar will include time for questions and discussion and would suit academics and administrators keen to embed attributes in undergraduate subjects or programs.
