Faculty Service Agreement (FSA)

The Faculty Service Agreement (FSA) process links Faculty Learning and Teaching priorities with staff expertise from Learning Design , Academic Development , the Centre for Academic Systems and Resources (CASR) and Learning Innovation, Facilities and Technology (LIFT). Examples of the types of projects which can be undertaken include, but are not limited to, assistance for eTeaching, blended and multi-location teaching including assessment or subject / curriculum redesign; video and audio production; animation; graphic design; web design; database development and staff development.

FSA PROCESS

A call for expressions of interest will be emailed to staff in November for nomination of projects for development during the following year. The table below details the process

1. Idea Identify a learning and teaching issue/problem that requires a solution, or an innovative eLearning idea for development, then discuss the issue or idea with a Learning Designer.
2. Review T&L plan Review the Faculty Learning and Teaching plan to find out if the project idea would meet the Faculties priorities.
3. Faculty approval Complete and submit a Faculty Service Agreement, Expression of Interest Application Form , identifying the project ideas, then discuss the project with Faculty and seek FSA approval from Faculty (Dean or delegated authority)
4. Submit application Submit the application to the FSA Project Coordinator (currently Paula McGregor)
5. Approval & scoping If accepted as a potential FSA, a Learning Designer will meet with the academic to scope the project; this identifies project framework and production requirements.
6. Production queue The project is prioritised according to UOW priorities and placed in a project queue. Once resources are available the applicant will be notified and development will commence.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be either University of Wollongong Academic or General staff.

In addition to applicant eligibility, FSA projects must:

  •  have a clear project owner (main applicant) who is responsible for progress, deployment and maintenance after the FSA period is ended
  •  fit with the overall aim of FSA to improve teaching and learning outcomes in Faculties in line each Faculty's teaching and learning priorities
  •  have a concrete teaching and learning outcome ie use in the teaching of at least one UOW program, or be a resource to support university-wide teaching and learning priorities.

Note: Any dispute over eligibility will be resolved by the Head of Academic Development.

Substantial projects producing University-wide resources must provide additional information at the time of application regarding deployment plans eg website hosting, responsibility and cost of ongoing maintenance. Please contact the Production Coordinator, Paula McGregor , for assistance with this prior to applying, as we are keen to help.

Programs receiving funds from external sources such as contracts and grants are not eligible for free production in the same period.

Marketing related websites or projects designed to streamline administration of teaching are NOT developed under FSA. Other funding sources should be sought for these projects.

PROJECT OWNER COMMITMENT TO THE PROJECT

A member of staff considering a FSA should think carefully about their availability for the development process, particularly their time and workload. They should expect to spend at least 1 hour per fortnight for meetings plus additional time for development of the teaching and learning environment, resources, evaluation and dissemination of project via publications if applicable.

Note: Any dispute over eligibility will be resolved by the Head of Academic Development.
