The Faculty Service Agreement (FSA) Program links Teaching and Learning priorities in the Faculties with staff expertise, support and resources located in CEDIR.
The FSA has undergone major changes in response to current University and Faculty Teaching and Learning Priorities, moving away from focussing on individuals and their subject to a more strategic and sustainable model supporting major thematic teaching and learning issues. Many Faculties have targeted program level projects such as ePortfolios, Learning Object Repositories, Practicum Placement Systems and assessment feedback templates.
The round of FSA negotiations completed for 2007 has been an opportunity not only to identify eTeaching production projects but also to undertake projects for teaching spaces, evaluation, staff development and curriculum development.
See the 2005 Report to Faculties
(pdf, 4.6Mb) for examples of projects undertaken. Alternatively, please search the online database of projects (Educational Systems Development Cases database.)
Negotiating FSA supportWe have moved away from a one-size-fits-all process of approvals for FSA support, instead negotiating with each Faculty not only the focus of the projects but also the process for application, approval and dissemination within the Faculty. This change has been facilitated by involving the CEDIR Faculty Liaison representatives in the negotiations at the Faculty level. From August each year each Faculty will be consulted to define their Teaching and Learning priorities for the next year's projects. In some cases expression of interest forms will be sent out by the Faculties in September - October to individual academics asking them to opt-in to projects that fall under the broad priority areas. We aim to finalise the FSA arrangements in December of each year.
Further informationIf you are interested in negotiating CEDIR support for a teaching and learning project, please contact your CEDIR Faculty Liaison representative in the first instance. For all other enquiries about the program please contact Chris Brewer, Program Coordinator, Faculty Service Agreement. Who is eligible for FSA hours?
Applicant eligibilityFSA applicants must be either academic staff from University of Wollongong teaching Faculties or teaching support staff from Academic Services Division who are willing and able to meet with CEDIR staff on campus every 2-4 weeks when their project is active. Main applicants on any kind of substantial leave that would impede their ability to meet every 2-4 weeks on campus eg overseas study leave, are not eligible during the period of their leave. With the support of their Head, applicants on local study leave undertaking teaching and learning projects are encouraged to apply for FSA to increase the outcomes of their leave period. Note that they may still be required to meet every 2-4 weeks on campus when the project is active.
Note: Any dispute over eligibility will be resolved by the Director of CEDIR.
What does FSA provide?
Project eligibilityIn addition to applicant eligibility, FSA projects must:
- have a clear project owner (main applicant) who is responsible for progress, deployment and maintenance after the FSA period is ended.
- fit in with the overall aim of FSA, which is to improve teaching and learning outcomes in Faculties in line with priorities of each Faculty's teaching and learning strategic plan.
- have a concrete teaching and learning outcome ie use in the teaching of at least one UOW program, or be a resource to support university-wide teaching and learning priorities.
Substantial projects producing university-wide resources must provide additional information at the time of application about deployment plans eg website hosting, responsibility and cost of ongoing maintenance. Please contact CEDIR for assistance with this prior to applying as we are keen to help.
Programs receiving funds from external sources, such as contracts and grants, are not eligible for free production in the same period.
Marketing related websites or projects designed to streamline administration of teaching are NOT developed under FSA. Other funding sources should be sought for these projects.
Note: Any dispute over eligibility will be resolved by the Director of CEDIR.
