Applications are invited from suitable applicants with an interest in developing leadership capacity for teaching within the faculty. During 2007-8 there is additional support for this role available through a Carrick Leadership Grant .
Application process
- Complete application form and submit to glefoe@uow.edu.au by 5 pm Friday 16th November.
- Advisory group, chaired by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), decides on which projects are to be supported.
- Budget of $12,000 allocated for half time release from teaching for one academic for one session and other project expenses.
Note: All funds must be expended within the agreed timeframe or returned to DVC(A).
The project should address a need for teaching improvement from the faculty strategic plan related to improving assessment practices. The project plan, including budget allocation, must address the criteria in the application form.
Essential criteria
The scholar should demonstrate:
- A capacity for leadership development in the area of teaching and learning;
- A desire to engage with a distributed leadership model and to work collaboratively with other institutions;
- An ability to interpret and identify areas for improving assessment practice that aligns with new UOW graduate attributes and disciplinary/faculty level interpretation;
- Knowledge and understanding of learning theories and processes, and evaluation processes;
- Knowledge of available and emerging teaching and learning methods and assessment practice;
- Proven record of achievement in educational design, teaching media, educational technology and /or curriculum development; and
- Knowledge of University structures and decision making procedures.
Overview of Scholar's tasks
- Lead a faculty based initiative in an aspect of change management to improve assessment within the faculty /school with a staff development focus e.g. aligning assessment tasks with UOW new graduate qualities;
- Create a plan of action to address the issue in consultation with CEDIR coordinator and project team;
- Meet monthly with a key member of the University executive for coaching/mentoring;
- Collaborate regularly with other scholars at UOW and University of Tasmania to discuss process and progress;
- Collect and prepare resources related to improving assessment practice;
- Maintain a reflective journal and participate in evaluation processes through out project;
- Participate in institutional and cross institutional networks and support;
- Provide leadership for planning and developing a national roundtable to share the outcomes of the assessment related project;
- Participate in mentoring scholars in one other university to implement the program, ensuring opportunities for further leadership development beyond the initial project; and
- Disseminate through conference papers/ journal articles before the end of 2009.
